I sincerely hope that authors dox themselves seriously. There are some mangas with tech/scientis MCs that could plummet corporations if had a job in real world confusing momentum with weight, bandwith with transfer rate or mosfets with transistors.

not sure if they chose the correct translation. it was different in the beginning so who knows. Seems very MTL to me.
yeah, from later chapters it seems more like it should have been translated as a "skill-limitation".
So the things you picked there limits your possible skills you can get - no idea why you want to limit your skills to require physical contact though (no signs that it would improve their power or whatever), but it is what mc did. And resulted in him receiving a very off-bran appraisal skill, where he needs to actually touch the thing he is appraising. Same for his edit skill, where had he picked any other skill seed he would have been able to be a menace editing everyone's status on sight (or possibly even anyone in range?)

yeah it threw me off why he would want it. either it was not properly explained or not properly translated. I'm going to assume it is the latter and just lost in the translation.

this feels fundamentally backwards. Even assuming he would get the ability to edit status screens and such, status is supposed to be an easy to digest representation of the world that a player can use. Basically, character trains, goes through life experiences, becomes smarter, etc and, so that the controlling player can know how that affects their actions and decisions, it's given numerical value. Assuming that editing the numerical display would change physical world it's supposed to represent seems absurd.
