I guess it's more like for their own research/curiosity, perhaps that makes them feel like they're not alone on this side. I also think that it doesn't matter but it would be nice if they met in the other side nglIts not like it matters to Gen if they find more japanese in the other world, its not like Hans in Nobu who needs the ingredients for his cooking
Wondered about this a while back too, but seems tempura restaurants use untoasted, clear, semirefined sesame oil which has a higher smoke point (400+F), not the toasted kind which is 350F.Reading it again, I'm surprised Gen uses sesame oil as their default frying oil, given sesame is now considered a top 9 allergen in our world, has a low smoke point of around 350F, and is typically much more expensive (like, 5x) than both soybean and canola oil.
Considering how long ago those studies were (with really extreme methodology- feed 70% of daily calorie intake to rats with just the oil, develops heart disease, ban immediately!), and the counter studies since, and the fact much of China and India use mustard seed and rapeseed oils with higher erucic acid content in their cooking with much lower heart disease rates that anywhere in the west, it's probably not as much of an issue, even leaving aside the crazy isekai setting.I'd be careful with Rapeseed oil from a fantasy setting. Canola is a variant, and the LA part means Low Acid.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rapeseed_oil has details on erucic acid
That doesn't really fix the allergy problem, though.Wondered about this a while back too, but seems tempura restaurants use untoasted, clear, semirefined sesame oil which has a higher smoke point (400+F), not the toasted kind which is 350F.
iirc didn't the little inari god that guards gen get a mild stomachache from eating some onions or something- (totally could be recalling completely different manga or wrong) - so maybe it makes sure no one gets sick or have anaphalaxis, or some other sort of isekai handwaving headcanon =DThat doesn't really fix the allergy problem, though
There was no implication that he would stop producing soy sauce. Why would he not continue producing it? He returned with his family to Keltia and sent along soy sauce to Hans. Hans has a supplier now, and this world seems to be one one where families inherit the cottage business when they aren't mobility or ultra rich. The son-in-law and daughter will take over the soy sauce business and keep it going. Hans will be able to open his own branch of Gen eventually because of that. This is so hard to discuss, but I'm itching.
The actor is from the same town that guy who ran from Celtia to Aitheria in the other manga. I am not so sure if they continued producing soy sauce after that incident, but it'd be pretty sad if they did. Given that the actor might be a future regular, the guys from Gen can just ask again. Afterall that apprentice chef from the other manga didn't give up.
One more thing, it seems that Gen is more aware of strange things than that other manga. I think it's because the other manga got serialized earlier, but it is still ongoing, so here's to hoping that both manga would gain awareness of the portal shenanigans and each other.
