They had days to prepare, and they didn't bother preparing any defensive lines? No pitfalls, no traps, no spikes...heck, no shield walls. I'd even be fine with some pavises set up to at least control the flow of battle. The goblins seem pretty stupid and weak, so you could absolutely wreak havoc on them without drawing a sword.

There are two types of characters (those who apply modern social mores to the new world, those who do not), and two types of audiences (those who want to see a relationship bloom, those who do not due to said social mores). Of the audiences, the former is much larger than the latter. This story is a case of a main character who applies modern social mores to the new world. From the start, he's been clear that he basically sees them as children.

This is the problem for the series - if he continues to apply modern social mores, then the series will get high ratings from the latter audience for doing the socially-approved action, but little popularity/sales from the former because chances are high a bunch of people are reading these to self-insert. After all, what's the point of rooting for a character if they have no chance because main character has put up a non-negotiable iron wall based on rules from his previous world? If he pursues a relationship, popularity and sales will soar, but it will get review bombed by anti-age gap audiences with the money and spare time to cause the author problems. It's a delicate balance to walk.

Yep, no traps, no walls, they got to choose and lure them to a chosen battlefield but didn't bother explaining if they did or didn't have time for their civilians to help with defenses like those or basic militia volley training. They didn't consider rotating out their frontlines either, but maybe I just read too much military manga. This isn't that kinda manga, but still feels a bit off if you wanna explore monster disasters like this in your manga.
