Might be it needs to be attached to the plant to properly fill up with those juices that shot out cause of too much magic.

I suppose so, tho unless he's too busy to be a 'future companion', feels like it'd be easier to also tag along as well next time , but maybe someone will if it's some 'dangerous' ingredient protected by a beast and ppl not expecting him to be a high warrior level bc I imagine after this he'll have a reputation for being a materials-guy rather than high rank (though i guess ppl associate 'newbies' with material gathering even if they're rare or there'd be some kinda "test" of strength/combat as well so ppl don't do like, 5000 herb quests in 3 years and just 'rank up' from that )

I get that he may not want to fight a dragon or strong creatures or maybe even something humanoid, but he is too scared of all monsters for how strong he is. it's kinda one note when he is afraid of all monsters even a caterpillar smaller than a leaf

Well if a direct shot of mana is too much maybe he can spread mana near them, he said the nearby fruit got affected but they didn't burst so they absorb nearby mana at a slower and more manageable rate.
