I'm gonna take this time to point out that just scanslating? Is really, really cheap to do, and all the money drama from the earlier years of the scene (pre-2010) came from paying for hosting and bandwidth. That's gone now. You can toss a million chapters up on MD and make their server cry, and still not have to pay a single buck. Even legit groups asking for money now is really sus.

Real talk, the main problem of groups begging for money, even groups that don't site lock or snipe or upload MTL garbage, is that it encourages scummy groups that do do those things. Scanslation has never been about the money because as much as we want to pretend otherwise, we are ripping off the original publishers. They let us get away with it for so long because manga wasn't that big a market here, and people weren't charging for their work. Now they are, and it's becoming a problem.
