Yep, he's been carrying his real body all this time. Notice that Demon Lord's "fake" body is still sitting on the throne so she also had her "body from original world" same as MC but somehow she was separated from it.
It's the same idea as Shinpachi from Gintama. He's just a pair of glasses and his entire personality and consciousness are stored within it but he still has a human body to "carry itself" around and interact with other people. Of course that's a joke in Gintama but a trope of person being "stored" inside an item and controlling a body remotely isn't that rare.
