First off, yay! Isabella is alive!
high fives to @ggbv
Did Franz really just threaten to rape her?
No no no - once they're married it's not rape, you know! And anyway, he's hot, even with only one each of legs, eyes, and brain cells - it's obvious she'd be into it even if she was saying no. And on top of that....
No, sorry, I'm going to throw up. He's not even sick, he's just fucking disgusting.
Very interesting development!
The Winterwalds are so cold in their social nature, that it is completely plausible for an outsider to think they would do such things as murdering Princess Vanessa to marry her servant, or murdering the firstborn so their second son gets the claiming rights.
I'm not
entirely sure it's all baloney, but given how Reudiger is I'm inclined to believe the Winterwalds are more misunderstood than genuinely cold. Reudiger basically doesn't give a shit about almost anything, and if he doesn't give a shit he's not going to bother pretending otherwise - that comes across as cold and cruel, and in practise it's probably not that far off being cold and cruel, but it's not that he
can't give a shit about anything, he just
doesn't.
Except Judith (and, largely through her, Luca), and hooo boy, when he falls he falls so hard it's beyond ridiculous . . .
But also his family - in the abstract "House of Winterwald" sense, but also his parents, and for all that it's not really obvious I think his brother, too. The thing that makes me think that is the fact that he ended up fighting Jonas' duels for him - if he really didn't give a shit about his brother he could just have left Jonas to it, and if he ended up dead . . . well, it's not like that would be such a terrible thing for the Winterwald family, after all - it'd get rid of someone who was a right pain in the arse, and open the way for Reudiger to fix the damage that Jonas had done to the family's reputation. But instead he stood for his brother dozens of times, even when they were duels with cuckolded husbands, people who had every right to be angry with Jonas . . .
So yeah, I don't think Winterwald is quite the cruel and cold family that people make them out to be, nor do I think that Jonas was unloved and misbegotten, even if he was doing his best to seem that way to the world.
I expect we'll discover the details of Jonas' death eventually, and I'm guessing they'll paint a rather different picture to what Franz is painting here . . . in fact, they may even paint a picture that has Franz in it . . .
Very good, very good writing
Read the webnovel it's based on too - I'm about half-way through (well short of the point we're up to here, so this is
not a spoiler, moderators!), and the writing is damned good. Also, hilarious. This is a really good adaptation.
