Translator (TLer): Translates from one language to another. Most of the time's it's Japanese to English. Preferably N3+. If they are N2 that's awesome! N1 is the best and should be treated like Gold.
How to test: Provide them an example of your script (how you type it out), AND a test chapter. Once they are done you should have a trusted TLer check their script and judge their capabilities. If they are good bring them on!

Translation Quality Checker (TLQCer): Checks the translated Script provided from the Translator for mistakes in the translations. This person is good/decent at both English and Japanese. This person can also Proofread if need be. The goal of the role is not to erase away and retype the translation, but to act as a overseer, making sure that translations are not wrong.
How to Test: This individual has to be at least N3 to be a TLQCer. This is a hard position since it asks the TLQCer to make harsh judgement on the script. Make sure this person is trusted and knows what they are doing! At JB we don't give this role willy nilly to people, and in fact I believe only a handful of people do this role. Usually a trusted Translator can be asked to do this role for some time.

Proofreader (PRer): Checks the translated script provided from the Translator for mistakes in the sentence structure, grammar and general sense of script. Making sure that the translation's flow, and follow a similar pattern of language and words used as previous chapters.
How to Test: Good Proofreaders are not born, but made! So when an individual applies for this position, it's okay if they don't have experience. They should show interest in the series they want to work on and should show that they are actually decent at English. They don't need to come from English speaking nations, but should show that they are capable at creating stories from fragmented thoughts.
Give them a pre-made script with bad grammar, missing text and general bad translations/spelling mistakes from a series you work on. Once they are done, cross check with the correct script and see if they spotted most of the mistakes. If they perform well, bring them on! However at JB we have a 5 chapter testing phase where we have the new recruit work on a chapter and we tell their mistakes. If they consistently perform bad we unfortunately let them go.

Cleaner (CLer): This role basically using different tools (like Photoshop) to remove the dust and text off of manga pages. The goal is to make the page completely black, white and gray with no dust on the page.
There are different types of cleaners!
1. You can have Digital cleaners-> they can clean only digital pages (basically leveling), are the easiest to find.
2. You can have Magazine cleaners-> they clean magazine pages which require skill and time. This breed is hard to find in the wild and are usually trained to be become Magazine cleaners. They start off as being Digital cleaners.
How to test: Have them clean some test pages! If you like their work bring them on! Make sure a trusted CLer by trade grades the test since they usually know what to look out for.

Typesetter (TSer): This role entails placing translated and proofread text on the cleaned pages. These are your true artists of the team! Having good typesetting changes the chapter from being mediocre or plain bad (like MS TSing), to something more worth showing to the public (like JB TSing).
A lot of people can claim they are good at TSing, however they usually are not consistent! So make sure that these individuals first know what they are doing, know the tools they can use and lastly follow a pattern in TSing created by your team. At JB we train all our new recruits before they TS on important/real content.
How to test: Have them typeset some test pages! If you like their work bring them on! Make sure a trusted TSer by trade grades the test since they usually know what to look out for.

Redrawer (RDer): This role redraws the art work that's covered by the original Japanese text. It's can be both tough/changeling and quite rewarding at the same time. The individual who does this needs to be really familiar with the tools of their trade. Knowing when to use the right tools at the right time makes the difference between a 5 minute RD and a 15 minute or more.
When testing individuals, make sure to add different levels of difficulty pages. You can estimate their capability and quality of work that way.
How to test: Have them redraw some test pages! If you like their work bring them on! Make sure a trusted RDer by trade grades the test since they usually know what to look out for. This role can be quite subjective, so when looking at the pages perhaps TS over the RD and then evaluate if they covered the original Art well enough.

Quality Checker (QCer): This role is the ultimate barrier that keeps shitty work out of the public eye. The role of this position is to make sure that the pages are properly: Clean, Redrawn, proofread, and Typeset. This role should be confident in doing minor changes to the pages to fix the pages for release. Hence should know basics for each role mentioned.
How to test: This should be a trusted member in the team or from the community since this role may also be releasing the chapters for your team. Therefor this role does not have a test and only team members can be promoted to this role, or trusted community members can jump in to help.

Editor: This is a special position that does multiple roles. Usually this position does everything except for TLing. The definition for this role is quite dependent on the team that's using such a role. Hence not much can be said about this other than making sure that this person knows what they are doing and can do it well.
For JB, an editor is someone that does everything other than TL. However some teams exclude the Quality checking role from their Editor's role to keep bias in the Editor's work in check.
How to test: Though JB does not directly support this role. Members need to be able to pass all tests given to them (mentioned above) except for TL and TLQC.
