Here's my theory. In almost every era, there's been a "second lead." Red-haired guy with the first visit to Japan. Blonde son in the vampire timeline. The priest in Egypt. Big brother here. etc. And they've always seemed to have an interest in her, but they never 'get' her cause she falls in love with someone else and they bow out. So my theory is that these guys are actually the same soul and they have been in love with her each time. Eventually, one of the reincarnations can't take it anymore and does something bad or makes a deal with the underworld or something. And that's how we get Shi Fu as he is.

Anyway, it's a small theory. There's a lot of conflicting evidence too like it really doesn't seem like Shi Fu "loves" her romantically. But it has been on my mind and I felt like there was a little something extra with the brother in this era so I wanted to mention it!
