For what we experience culturally now, I think this one becomes weak quickly because the idea is so prevalent. The simple fact that something resembling the backrooms exits isn't really scary anymore. It's so spread around that we became overfamiliar.
At this point, you need either a genuinely good story set within that kind of space, or something with strong physical presence - like convincing movie sets, practical effects, atmosphere - to make that concept feel disturbing again. Just revealing "you felt out of reality and now you are in the creepy out-of-bounds area" doesn't work with same weight itself anymore.
The whole freezing, corrupted speech and pixelated face is much more interesting, but then the backrooms basically brought the story down.
