Remember that the magazine demographic is what the manga's demographics are so seeing shoujo despite the fact that the franchise overall is more in line with shounen and spoiler alert other manga related to this franchise are in fact in shounen magazines

K is obviously not a shoujo anime in spite of the bishounen characters. Also gotta love how they switch to other forms of media for what started out as an anime original series.
The prequel movies somehow actually were based on light novels as were some of the prequel manga.
