Come on Author, don't change the lore here. Azusa heard HTT for the first time in her 1st year of high school not before admission.

@Dran If we're getting technical like that, it was only stated in the OG manga that she wanted to join after watching their welcome live. I don't believe it was ever stated that that was the first time she watched them play. Anime could be different though.

Azunyan cameo 10/10 best chapter ever. Poor girl, she didn't know what to expect.

I love how in the original K-On! we had the perspective of the beginner guitarist, with changing strings and such, while here we can see how it is for someone to get into drumming, so between both series we get a more complete look into the different members of a band. Maybe the next spin-off can be about a bass player.

For those wondering about the canon of when Azusa heard HTT for the first time, it's one of the places where anime canon and manga canon differ. In the anime, she was completely unfamiliar with HTT before her first day at Sakuragaoka High, and she didn't decide to join the keionbu until after seeing them play in the "Welcome New Students" event. In the original manga, she heard a recording of their first School Festival performance and decided to join the keionbu before stepping foot in Sakuragaoka for the first time (see Vol. 2, Ch. 1 of the original manga).

Now, something that I'm wondering is whether or not something that Azusa said in this chapter contradicts the previous manga canon. In this new Shuffle chapter, she said, "I heard a band at the Sakuragaoka High School Festival" (italics added for emphasis). By using the word "at", does she mean that she actually attended the show like Yukari and Kaede did, or does she still mean that she only heard a recording of it and I'm just reading too much into the translator's choice of words?

I wanted to see Azunyan reaction to being confused with a little girl.

maybe the "at" is to point that the band that she heard, performed at Sakuragaoka High School Festival, not that she was there herself

I think the last line is probably "You didn't ask?"

"Listen" and "ask" are both 聞く so...

Depends on what was originally written, I suppose.

If it was: 聞いてないの?
Then it's the present continuous form. "Are you not asking?" would make no sense in this context, thus "Are you not listening?" should be correct.

If it was instead: 聞かなかったの?
Then it's the past form. From the context, "Did you not ask?" would be more likely than "Did you not listen?".

@Dran The anime is the one that changed it. See: chapter 1 of volume 2 of the original series. Though Azusa listened to a recording, she did not attend the show. Azusa even specifically admired Yui... until she met her in chapter 3 of volume 2.
