I'm asking this with no bad intentions, it's just something I'm trying to understand.

I’m not really someone who reads a lot of manga, but the few I’ve read over the last few years, I didn’t really check the comments or interact much in forums. But for the past 4-5 months, I’ve been reading more comments, and I’ve noticed this kind of thing in some series. Have there always been a lot of readers rooting for yuri in stories?

Again, I’m not judging or criticizing, it’s just something I’m not really used to. This is actually the fifth series I’ve read this week where either actual yuri happened or the heroines interacted in a way that made the comments go crazy about yuri. Or maybe it’s just me overthinking it, I’m not sure.

Yea people hyper fixate on things but the people that appreciate yuri only read manga for the yuri and especially look for Yuri (even sometimes when there is none). There is always a spectrum but lesbianism is very idealized especially in male centric manga. Boy Love is usually more explicit in that it's boy love. Recently, lota of manga just have Yuri appear randomly but this author in particular is known for yuri.

if that's what you got from this comment section then you need to have your eyes checked. Or your brain checked. There isn't some kind of epidemic of people rooting for yuri, but there is a group of lunatics that have some kind of meltdown when there is a hint of yuri in a non yuri story. I think when they see yuri, they only see red and start losing the ability to think clearly.

You do know that Kanan looked into her soul and saw the pureness that was mixing with the corrupt in her soul, right?

She was being turned away from it.

And the only reason she was even doing any of this is because her beloved would be against using her family fortune for the surgery.

Which,BTW,the only "amoral" thing she has actually done(of which worse crimes have already occurred in this comic)was to film buxom teens wrestling.

You can quite literally replace the beloved with a boy and the result would be the same.
Reminder the worse crimes have by and large been done by DEMONS.

This is a NORMAL RICH GIRL who decided exploiting minors AND HER BELOVED FRIEND'S DESIRE BEFORE DEATH for profit was a valid way of saving said friend's life.

She drew the line not at (most likely) bribing the board to get approval for what is basically CP, not at doing it behind every participants' back, but at finding a way to make Ohanabatake or her family get her money. When, just by talking it out with her here, she easily convinced her of accepting her feelings of wanting to keep her alive by finding some way of funding her operation.

Because let's not kid ourselves, Ohanabatake's pageant is just the excuse she decided to use to make the money: if they had done something else, Shark Teeth would have tried some different way to exploit it for money for the surgery, going by the logic shown here...but no, finding a roundabout way to have her "get money for the surgery" was too much.

The fact that none of the actually baffling and questionable parts of this entire subplot are necessary is the issue with it.

Except it is necessary, for it's the obvious case, that has been done before,of a character not being strong enough to express their own feelings, being a coward to their own desires, even if doing other things that others would call dastardly is perfectly fine for them.

At the time, questioning what is and isn't morally right in a teen Japanese comic of any sort is forgetting what the Japanese do involving teens(or younger, sometimes older and then some)in their entertainment media on a very regular basis.

One would be extremely hard pressed to find one Japanese comic about hormonal, barely thinking, and impulsive teenagers that doesn't have something a Western society could point out as being amoral, and that's not even including magic n' other paranormal aspects.

Also, money is tracked quite well, her friend would most certainly find out where the cash came from if she used a roundabout method with her own money, but coming in after the fact by stating she used the event to raise the money for her is within the limits she perceived from her friend,it was our resident demonic moral lass who got their asses in sync before that could happen.

Of course, that's all irrelevant, for the root cause of this whole comment section is :
