I suppose an owner of a mechanical watch would have a habit of winding it every morning, without needing to think about it. Owners of battery powered ones would just notice one day the battery has served its time.

If it's a manual wind mechanical watch I guess so, yeah. It'd just be part of your daily routine. I imagine though that nowadays those are mega rare and 99% of mechanical watches would be automatic / self winding via rotor.
