Uhm...
Doesn't that kinda imply all of this isn't actually fun for him?
It implies that it's not relaxing for him.

That's the entire dynamic of the manga in a nutshell. Takagi knows she's in love with him and just prolonging the chase for her own amusement, Nishikata is too dumb, too immature, or too in denial to realize he's in love with her, and so is completely at her mercy.

There probably was a time when Takagi got just as nervous looking at Nishikata as Nishikata now gets looking at her, but that was before chapter 1.

As much as i love this manga, it's kinda been dragging for a very long while now without any progress

Yeah, it gets a bit boring when Takagi constantly wins all the time with seemingly no effort. It'd be nice to see Nishikita occasionally pull out a win, or at least make her work for it.

People used to wonder when Wile E. Coyote would catch the Roadrunner, but the story was only ever about the chase not the ending. The thing is we already know how it turns out, this is just a story about their courtship if you think about it. (according to a friend of mine who's been paying attention to their seasons and seat arrangments we might not even be seeing a linear progression of time so who knows if we'll ever see any progress.)

Him agonizing over it wasn't relaxing, obviously.

But outside of that? He's a natural.
In fact whenever he's not being overly conscious about 'competing' we can see they get along quite well.

Like that one chapter long ago where he casually turn down hanging out with friends to stay with her.

Yeah, at this point, it's a question of when Nishikata either wises up to what's happening, or, more likely, when Takagi decides she's not satisfied with just leading him around by the nose anymore.

Also this plan was doomed from the start; if Takagi was familiar with the music in question, she could actually use it as a pretty good indicator of time.
