I like how you can even see that from Bai Jin's relationship with Francine. She was fun for him she made him feel good but he didn't understand anything about her life or the sacrifices she made. All he cared about was how it made him feel. I think that's why Bai Yin had such a stark difference when he saw her true nature and fell in love.
