At least Minoru won't be damaged by punches so fast with the opponent using puffy gloves. But it does nothing against elbows, so I'm not sure if it matters overly much. It's obvious the French guy plans to end this quickly with elbows or knees, so fists wouldn't have been a part of his core strategy from the beginning.
