Hmm, it looks like Haruka's mom is still using the old gender terms for Haruka... Still referred to Haruka as "my son" and "his best friend."

Not sure if that was intentional, or maybe it was just a translation choice/mistake if the original text didn't have gendered terms.

Though I guess I don't know what the social etiquette is around gendered terms for someone that has their sex spontaneously change against their will, as opposed to coming out to their parents...

Tokyo bananas are freaking expensive in my country.

Totally not worth it.

About a decade and a half ago I pondered what exactly a Tokyo Banana was. Now I know but I've long forgotten what show it was that posed that question to me.

.... I mean everything seems OK so far. I'm wondering if we are going to have a comedic reunion with the Dick-In-A-Jar ™, because things seem to be going to smoothly...

Speaking with some personal experience, it could be a testament to their bond and understanding of each other, but since Haruka didn't seem to mind either way I doubt it's from a 'hateful' place.

My mom was this way, "You'll always be my baby" and in passing she had started to lighten her personal restriction and slip in some hers or feminine allusions, though she made it clear that she was never really accepting of the times. Likely due to dad's BS and all the family politics he'd been indoctrinated by, neither of their approval really mattered cause my life is my life, they can't stop shit.

In all, I'm no authority on the matter but I feel like Haruka and their mom would be on a similar page of "Shit happens, you're still my baby." You can draw a lot of assumptions, but the nuance of the living story has a lot of caveats; With fiction your guess is as good as mine.

If their town was in the US it would be vape and tobacco shops with lottery machines instead of pachinko parlors.

Why not? Homophobic much?
Because so much of the story has been about "can a boy and girl really just be friends" and it'd be pretty disappointing for for it to decide that the answer is actually just "no".
Not sure how it would be homophobic in the first place, considering at this point they are a boy and a girl, unless you're also assuming transphobia.
