They aren't from another series, sadly. They were originally an illustration commissioned to Utako-sensei to be used as a cover for a BL manga anthology (none of the stories in the anthology are about them). However, people became interested in the characters thanks to the cover, so now we got this mini oneshot about them.
There's a survey currently being held in the magazine the shot was published, so we're guessing that if this, let's call it, "introduction," gets enough interest/feedback from readers, it might be serialized. Fingers crossed.
