The combat dialog seems a bit weird and makes me wonder if there were translation mistakes or a mixup with the bubbles...
He starts with two knives, and loses one to make a fireball explode early and gets his arms burned.
After that, he claims that his left arm is useless, and yet he strangely kept it holding a knife for almost the entire fight, only dropping the weapon when he gets kicked really hard later.
Later he says "Guess I'll throw away the weapon that won't hit...", but he never throws anything after that and still charges in while holding it. And of course, the only weapon he had to throw was the one in his "useless" left hand.
