if i had to guess this isn't the intentional ending, but the mangaka got a bit bored of this series so stopped. it's been about 6 years since the last chapter, so it's pretty safe to assume onigiri is done for.

lets all pretend him and his harem eat salted onigiri every day together from thusforth

i added this entry to MD so the romance tag was a mistake on my end!
i only previewed the diet chapter, crunchy seaweed chapter, and the initial simpy girl chapter, so i must have just absentmindedly clicked it thinking it would be a larger focus than it actually was in the end
*fun fact is i didn't read this manga at all before translating

on anilist, the "food" tag or "gourmet" on MAL would be more fitting in this case, but we seem to only have a "cooking" tag here, which feels less applicable to most things

would it make sense to tag it as cooking on here? i'd personally be annoyed if i wanted a manga about cooking and just got a manga about eating, but that's me being a nitpicky food manga lover

That was certainly a manga about a boy who was rather fond of onigiri. It was a bit of nothing, but fluffy nothing is still nice. I wouldn't put this as a cooking manga either.
