Anyways
Ahhhhh, delicious. The taste of dysfunctional relationships X3
Look, I'm all with y'all ftr. Like, hell, it really shouldn't be as bad as it's getting too; they got hella friends around them, and it does seem like a good amount of them in other circumstances would be the type to help mediate the situation.
...
But also like... To be real? Esp in a university setting?
Dime a dozen, and hell, happens especially in the more social groups (even if Mitsuki is more of a loner vibes type)
It's the classic test of "can your HS relationship survive y'all leaving the HS bubble, esp with the existence of the bigger city as an adult especially"
And... Like sooooooooo many high school sweethearts?
It fails. Het or gay, so often the reaper of romance named more accurately as "social exposure" sinks their claws and... To us? Drives them apart
To them? They just realized that situations are not all that's needed to keep a flame going.
...
Which, y'all... Like, goes to show HOW RESEARCHED THIS MANGAKA IS BTW. The rock and roll energy of it is beyond surface aesthetic, beyond simply just simple "remember this band" style nostalgia
Bish dug DEEP, and even captured the literal energies AROUND which that rock and roll energy was fostered. The kinda shit that drove to the creation of the iconic hits (for a particular subset of Americana ftr). Like legit, it's giving "I'm about to hit the pickup and drive cross country after the breakup vibes with my guitar and my new girl" for Mitsuki. And while Japan's not as absurdly car obsessed as the States... I mean road cultures absolutely were a thing, esp circa 80's youth movements in Japan. Like literally, listen to ARB, for instance (yes I did learn about them thru Penguindrum actually XD), watch an older Japanese live action classic from that era, or hell, even a newer one that involves some sort of outcast rambler energy (shit, there's one with 4 kids all with fucked up situations, I forgot the name but that one also hits the energy hard ESP CUZ they make a lil band too X3)
Honestly, go outside. No seriously, go outside, go and take a trip, a journey, a wander, anything to take you away from posting male chauvanist nonsense HAHA you thought I was just gonna post my honest thoughts about this work but also you underestimate my PETTINESS AHAHAHAHA no but seriously... For me, the deliciousness of fellow fan reactions stems from just... How much it shows that so many are lost in the cage of the ideal... I mean me too ftr XD
But yeah... Gods... Tbh I was about to drop this manga after they fully got together, it was getting too stale, too simple, and the stylization doesn't match well for the slice of life doldrums it was about to enter... Found myself reading the mangaka's other works, and felt like this one was kinda puzzingly too... Tame. Too focused on being referential, too focused on "remember this" type bs...
...
But holy fuck I'm glad I stuck around; it straight up "Life is Strange"d on us XD so curious how it'll stick the landing... Omg I HOPE it literally turns Blue Yuri for a bit cuz OMG I can see the volumes on the shelf fully FULLY switching colors too for the depths of this arc, if the mangaka actually ACTUALLY goes there, mfing media mix legend (given also the aggressive merchandising of this manga too BTW holy fuck Kinokuniya)...
Fuck... Imma put on some ARB and just relax the day away soon (with the meager time I got) X3
