Yeah like, it's supposed to be a story and all but are all the fucking nobles of the kingdom including the royalty absolutly corrupt and evil. And every single soldier in his army. What good is it even going to do ? Isn't the king suppose to do something when two of his vassals fight without any good reasons ?

yeah the bridge being the last thing we see this chapter is pretty obviously hinting at the simple idea of "how the fuck are you going to get your army to my city if I tear down this bridge"

As others have said, the bridge is the first point they will begin to dismantle this army. I assume letting them get on it and dropping them into the swamp. Heavy armor and to many people might even do this on accident. Then maybe just pick any who can cross the swamp off with range tactics or her lopping off heads as she flies over the swamp.
