While the sentence does talk about "someone's daughter", I'm not too sure about the details. I feel like the sentence made it vague, but I'm willing to do a revision if you think it needs one.

The sentence in question is

...知り合いの
ご令嬢に
マリーさんなんて
娘いないはずだ

All I can really think is that the true name of that person is being hidden, or it's also Marie as well. Can't be so sure until we reach Volume 5

Either way if we do learn of the truth eventually, I'll be sure to edit it in here

Based on the raw text in the comment above, the Google translation is:
. . . I don't think any of the young ladies I know have a daughter named Marie.
So Arthur's dad is basically learning about Marie for the first time and noting that she isn't a daughter of an acquaintance (aka someone of noble birth), since that's the kind of person he'd assume Arthur would be involved with. Kinda setting up for class drama vibes.

The picture of Arthur's New Years resolution had "I love Marie soooo much" written. The father upon reading that sentence speaks "There's no way that this Marie-san would have a daughter, since she is an acquaintance's daughter." I did not get how the father went from reading Marie's name to talking about how she could not have a daughter?

I guess it'll probably make sense in the next volume. Also apparently Arthur had a girlfriend named Mary from chapter 1 Page 6 bottom panel. Not sure whether it's related though.

I think it took me until this chapter to realize...we might not be in japan. It doesn't really change anything but did I feel like I missed some obvious clue in the earlier chapters. Or it just was never addressed?

It was never addressed. No one knows. I think the author never thought about it when he was writing this, since he was never expecting to get so much traction out of this manga
