…this is one of the most low-octane ch1 of an isekai manga i’ve ever read. Not that that’s bad, but it felt like we jumped in mid-intro so you just go “eh/nyeh” and enjoy the ride.

Yes, it's wordplay. Kikori (木こり / 樵) is also the Japanese word for lumberjack/woodcutter, and this guy has an axe with him. It's exactly why the guard was smirking on page 9 and the bald dude and the others kept pointing it out. It's a pun that couldn't make it through translation.

I'm actually tempted to put in "A Lumberjack's Otherworldly Tales" as an alt. title because of this pun, but they didn't use the kanji so I won't.

cool idea but ironically enough this kind of story usually have a loooot of asspulls and convenient plot armor to justify 'ordinary' folks succeeding while still creating a drama that's not pretty much a boring diary lol.

either that or it's gonna turn into a misery porn (while still leaving mc's plot armor on despite all the miseries and deaths around them).

Nice, always fun whenever the adventurer profession is more gritty. Extra rare to have that setting on top of isekai; wonder if that aspect of it will play into it more than just giving our MC a backstory
