That might hold if they'd been shown to do a single thing to actually protect students from being sent to fight. Have they ? Even when it comes to Sheena they'd done their best so that she's useful to the war effort.

"The people sending child soldiers to the war front want the children to make it back" doesn't exactly excuse the fact that they're helping send children to the war front, you know ?

If they actually wanted to help, they'd be the ones on the battlefield...

Oh, give me a break. "I put a weapon in a child's hand, I'm sad it lead to that child being killed" isn't care, it's immoral idiocy. What they need isn't being shown as victims who genuinely suffer from the situation. What they need is a reflection of what they could have done differently.

Pretending they're not to blame and are hurt that the children died is purely trying to pass the offender for a victim.
I believe your on point. I still don’t understand the teachers.

If you haven't seen the anime then I suggest you do, it added a lot of scene that fleshed out their characters more.

If they die in the battlefield, what then? More uncaring, apathetic teachers and nurses might replace them, and that would just make the students' lives worse. Their hands are tied and there is not much they could do, which might change later in the story idk.

Again, I would suggest watching the anime because it does a much better job at this. In the anime it's very clear that they blame themselves for every death that we see.
I really think this person (I mean this with no ill intent) already has very strong opinion about the teachers that won't change regardless if they watch the anime or not.

I do agree with you that the anime does a way better job at showing how the teachers are affected by the war that isn't just them sending the kids to the warfront while they drink tea and strategize. Furthermore, there is just so much we still do not know about the war itself or the "grimoire" and why magical children seem to the be temporary answer to the war at the moment.

Seeing Omi's reaction to the death of Laura really changed how I viewed her relationship amongst the students. Fran for me seems very on par with what we see in the manga but more direct with her presence among the children, at least for me that's how I see Fran in the anime compared to the manga (in a very general sense).

I get the feeling that the "teachers" might be more or less forced into the situations they're both in and are p. much trying to cope with a VERY shitty situation the best they know how...
However, I get the strong sense that they both really care about the kids very much, but they just show it and cope with the situation in very different ways...

Commonly, the justification for using magical child soldiers is that they're more powerful than your adults. E.g. in Nanoha you can have freakish superpowered prodigies more powerful than most people alive. In Railgun, you don't have soldiers per se, but the setting conceit of advancing 'esper' training means that at the moment, your most powerful people (outside of the 'magic' world) are teens; current adults were too old to get the neat training. In Symphogear, it's not clear why all the Gear users are teen girls (though some of them were experimental orphans), but they are, so you use them. I assume Simoun had a reason for using pre-Change 'girls' as pilots, though don't really remember.

We got a hint of that being true here (more explicit in the anime version than in the fan TL of the manga, with a line about students being more effective than soldiers), but given the long age of magic in the setting, and lack of other worldbuilding, it's hard to see why 16 year olds would be peak fighters.

Of course the other reason is that you're just that desperate for soldiers.

Post-change Simoun characters are physically unable to fly a Simoun. The Simoun rejects them if they try. i.e. If you went thru the water and chose a sex, you became unable to fly a Simoun ever again. That's one of the main things in the series and why Tempus and Spatium Aeru and Neveril didn't go thru the water. They're flying theirs and looking over everybody else forever.

(Damn, that was nice. I haven't had a Simoun conversation in forever (and it's still my all-time favourite anime).
