I don't know what the original japanese is like, but in this version of the chapter the start of page 6 can be understood a bit differently... I wonder if that's relevant at all.

I always find it interesting to see how character designs change when they get genderbent. Male characters tend to have longer hair, be shorter and look more attractive. Female characters tend to be taller and no breasts but rarely have shorter hair or look more masculine, think Bishounen and you're about there
