The female lead makes a simple rice ball, and the manga is making like it was a huge accomplishment, while the childhood friend makes something worthy of a maid, yet it gets a simple oh she is actually skilled huh reaction from Renya. The female lead bias is unreal coming the author.

I mean compared to what the FL lead made the first time around, making something actually edible is a huge step up worthy of praise. It's like a student repeatedly failing a subject to suddenly get a C- from a recent test.

I get that, but this is the second strike of favoritism for FL, with the other instance before when Sakurako who has known Hibusa as Renya's childhood friend who loved him first; basically, calling her a homewrecker by asking FL is she okay with Hibusa stealing Renya. Showing she supports someone she just met over a longtime friend/little sister. That comes off as author's bias.

If I recall, though, whatever caused Renya and Hibusa to separate previously, the latter treated the former quite coldly and borderline abusive from when the series started (as per your typical modern toxic tsundere). Regardless what Hibusa's true feelings for Renya are, his perception of her not being romantically into him anymore would be highly justified. Even now, as Hibusa tries to step up to show she's a better maid than the FL, Renya might not even see it as her trying to show her feelings for him, but more about 'reclaiming lost property out of desperation'.
