Here way after the fact, but found and read this over the last couple days after following along with another series by the same author.
Interesting story - got more than a little frustrated at all three characters at various parts, but I think that's a sign that I was invested, that I care, and that I can be happy with how it all turned out.
Not much to say beyond that since it's pushing 3 in the morning here, and I could easily leave an essay detailing all the major plot points and character breakdowns and generally treat this like a high school book report.
But the premise actually worked well - just enough "sci-fi" to excuse the setup, with an interesting dovetailing of what it means to "run away" shown through Yatarou in the last few chapters. It's a compelling idea; being able to simply sleep, escape your present, wake up sometime fresh and new.
The subtheme of losing your place and having to re-find yourself was almost more interesting than the central romance plot. I'd argue it was actually just as important, though I think focusing on it less, was the correct call.
The final chapter was a good shift. Taking the focus off of Ito and Chiharu, letting them live their happy ending off-camera, and instead giving an epilogue to Yatarou and Shihori was a good bookending. There wouldn't have been a good way to resolve Yatarou's story, I think, without pushing the Main Duo offstage, and Shihori was a great character to introduce in the eleventh hour and tie the idea of "finding yourself and freeing yourself" that was so central to Yatarou's story.
It was a good read. Not too long, reasonably paced, and the characters were likeable, even if they made me want to pull my hair out with the misunderstandings and indecisiveness. But I remember being 17, and
I didn't even have a messy love triangle involving someone who was seven years older than me who then became my age, so.
They all turned out okay, and I think I can extend the grace of simply being happy I could enjoy their story.
Thanks for TL'ing this series,
@pattyyy - I'm glad I was awake and alive for it.
