Oh Taiyou, you said the right words for all the wrong reasons! I'm glad that Hiiragi had fun! Even if they did lose, at least they did their best.

Class 2-2 on the other hand did way too much. I feel sorry for their class, their leader is too dedicated lol. They could have gotten the same results with half the time!

Taiyou really fucking infuriates me. "If you try hard enough, you can do anything! I know sign language y'all!"
My dude don't know jack shit and how no one has noticed it is beyond me.
I know that that is the comedy premise of this manga but that attitude toward a skill that takes god knows how many hours to learn just annoys me to no end. Especially when he keeps misinterpreting Hiragi.

That's my rant of the week

Thanks for the chapter

Big agree, its actually super frustrating seeing him push everyone to learn sign language only for him to do jack shit about it. We're supposed to think he's a nice guy but he keeps pretending to understand her despite the fact he knows he can't and doesn't do anything about it.

I don't think he's pretending. That completely goes against his kind hearted character. He just seems to fully believe he knows sign language and no one had said anything about it so far.

There's multiple times where we outright get shown that he doesn't understand a lick of what she's saying, and not in the way of him just misunderstanding her (though we obviously get that regularly as well) but in the way where he outright admits he doesn't understand a single bit of what she's trying to say and then brushes it off for no reason.

Actually yea. That might have just been me missing that since it has been quite a while since I last read this manga so I have merely forgotten a few key details. Not to mention the few chapters after this pretty much proving your point. But that revelation actually pretty much made me dislike him as well.

Edit: But at least he learnt from it and actually bothered to learn sign language after that choir thing. Though now thinking about it I wished he should've done it from the start.

You should have kept your original opinion, not allowing others to change it. The dude was born an idiot, he can't change it any more than Hiiragi can change her congenital hearing defect. He simply believes he can understand and master sign language through sheer passion by doing it, with little studying. Despite his idiocy, he actually has language related talent, as his perfect score in the English exam demonstrated. He has also actully been correct a few times with sign language as well, or close enough to correct, which further demonstrated his inherent talent in that one and only subject.

More importantly, it's thank to him that Hiiragi got so integrated into the class. While she was approched by the random girls in the beginning, it's quite possible they would have lost interest eventually without Taiyou as a mediator. His passionate belief in his own mastery of sign language and persistent interaction with Hiiragi signigicantly lowered the threshold for others to keep approaching her as well. Furthermore, he's not looking down on her and is making others also not pity her. Dude's the best thing that could have possibly happened to Hiiragi when transferring to that school and class. His false sign language skills are, ironically, a part of the success.

Its a lot greater of a loss to lose hearing when youve grow to love music so this is not as bad. Though I also dont know what it would be like living without understanding sound at all when its natural to everyone else.

He's an Idiot who thinks he knows, sure he admits not knowing some stuff but he's pretty confident of his skills for general conversations and because of that he doesn't try to formally learn sign language and rather just improve with everyday conversation & observation instead.
People do this with english a lot too, where rather than go to a language class they'll just rather talk to people who have mastered english instead. Sure it works but you need some level of comprehension with the language for this method to work effectively at least, a level of comprehension Taiyou believes he already has.

I'm getting whiplash from this manga being so wholesome after reading one of Aldehyde's other works.
