Reminds me that gouriki was only shown used like once in a real battle.
Kinda wish that more things they practiced got shown in more details and performed in real battle more often before things inevitably turn into a melee.

Since I already googled it, you guys don't really have to.

Gouriki was the formation where they huddled together with shield in front, forming a blockade against cavalry charge.

Kinda make sense she wants to drill it down early since cavalry charge is really a bane for infantry unit, which seems to be the majority of hers.

Yeah, I agree. Or even any of the other armies as well. All of the other named tactical formations only got used like once or twice and never again.

I believe the first time they showed Gouriki was when Heki first became General and the flank of his army got saved by the Hi Shin Unit riding in at the nick of time.

Second time was during one of the battles for Gyou. Kanto and his friends instinctively picked up shields when enemy cavalry attacked them.

There was another instance of Gouriki being used. I don't remember which battle, but it was stated at the time that due to Kyoukai being the inventor, her soldiers were far more proficient at using it than the rest of the HSU and could form long lines instead of the usual small clumps of soldiers.

And there were a few times in the omakes that it was mentioned for comedic purposes like this one.

I'm sure the author will use it a few more times in the future considering it's probably like the only properly named technique used by the HSU.
