I still don't know what the purpose of this story is.

A story about a lesbian who has a hopeless crush on a married woman.

Are they gonna have an affair?
Nope, just baiting.

Are they gonna show the husband then?
Nope, he is an invisible plot device, not even a real character.

Only sense I can find is that this is for tragic romance story fans I guess?

By not showing the husband of the two married characters, the author is shooting himself on the foot.
When Sensei said Yuri's husband is kind, I don't know if that's true or not, since the manga never showed their interactions, or their married life
The same applies to Nanako, because if her relationship with her husband is bad Sensei and Nanako will probably develop a romantic relationship, but if the relationship is good they probably won't.
This leaves the audience to imagine what happens, so independent of what will happen, a group of readers will be disappointed.

I just knew that she'd blame herself for being stressed instead of realizing that perhaps her husband was part of the issue, and that it shouldn't be her sole job and purpose in life. Eugh. Don't apologize. ^^

Or she actualy messed up and her husband is a good guy, exactly like author said... Yeah i know it's crazy, but it happen that a wife (or a woman) is in the wrong.
Also, there is no excuse for a woman to run away with her kid without saying anything when her husband was never violent toward any of the two.
I still don't know what the purpose of this story is.
A slice of life about an hopeless shut-in that was totaly lost and was saved by the perfect waifu that live in the appart next door.
And said waifu was also helped by the shut-in because she was extremely lonely due to her husband working aboard.

Basicaly a bunch of women who try to do their best.

They say he's kind and he loves her, which I don't doubt as such. But it's obvious by her talking that she's felt stressed in her "role" and instead of questioning whether that thinking is wrong in the first place it's just "go back to being a housewife". Nothing's solved, nothing's improved, all the blame and stress is still on her.

It's Japanese social norm but it's fucked up.

I do agree that of course we don't know all the details. It might very well look different in different contexts. But seems pretty clear here.

I don't know, but this whole story gives me a bad feeling about the protagonist's relationship with Nanako. I hope it's not "In the end, the protagonist helps Nanako fix her marriage with her husband and they live happily as friends" because then the story wouldn't make any sense.

The series ended long back.. based on the raws, there is no NTR or any falling out between the mangaka and Nanako San.. just unrequited live or acceptance..

I wonder what stopped the author from committing to yuri? Or is the mangaka here a self-insert ?

Only english and some rare western country think that women being housewife is bad.
And no you are not more educated than other. Most country respect housewife a lot.

And in this case the author made it clear that the probleme was just this woman being unsure of her life and that she stressed herself for no reason.
Yes a woman can be happy as a housewife, and yes a housewife can be the one creating her own problem, like every other human being.

The entire case here was that the husband was not the issue at all, and that she was just lost because of the stress. And then she massively fucked up by running away with THEIR kid without saying a word.
