You're being silly. The comments are obviously pointing out how shocking it is that she's portrayed this way when every flashback we've seen she looks completely different. In the previous chapters she was shining, yet in the photo she almost resembles a corpse. No one is mentioning her appearance to "make themselves feel better" that's an INSANE reach lol.

I went back to the first chapter to check if the way the characters talked about Setsuko could be read as sarcastic, but there's a decent chunk of it that reads like they say her the way Ryousuke did in his memories.
