People pressure their shy friends to open up, not realizing that it will only make them close up even more due to anxiety. For a surreal comedy manga, this one is a little too realistic.

put offish? i've heard of standoffish but wouldn't being 'put off' like being 'disgusted' with someone as opposed to stoic/distant?

i know it's a japanese thing (idk if other asian cultures do i) to say i'm home/welcome back (to the point where ppl even say 'pardon my intrusion' even when they purposefully intrude/break in) but is it that big a deal if you don't say it, other than someone in the kitchen and recognizing the specific voice of your relative to react, it seems like it'd be tedious versus muscle memories (well, i guess other than saying 'i'm back' i usually hear dad say if he's going out or so , to have a chance to ask to pick something up on an errand)

oh expected the sickly/dying friend to be a female, but nothing wrong with this, hope he gets better. or able to move on if he does pass away soon (god imagine someone watching the jdrama and seeing this outta nowhere but i guess even in some comedies, some jdrama/live adaptations do have heavily emotional scenes)
