I ran out of time when I posted the chapter, but I wanted to make some notes specifically about the second long Hama thread.
The thread is just a long string of meme references.
The "advice" is references to commercials for Toshin High School (which I believe is a prep school) in which the teachers say some line related to studies. Here is a compilation. Many of the lines used in the thread are there. Skipping the first one in that video, they go "If you speak English, you can get a job anywhere in the world, is that wrong?" "The grades you've gotten in the past don't matter," skip another, "First, know thy enemy," and so on. They're all about studying in some way. The most famous is probably "Itsu yaruka? Ima desho" (when are you going to do it? it has to be now), which in particular became a big meme. Apparently.
The street photography stuff is references to fashion magazines, seemingly in particular Men's Knuckle, which has a "street snap" section with apparently nothing but really goofy captions. The first one in the thread is a reference to this, which goes "Gaia is whispering to me to shine even brighter." Others include "The streets may have been born so they could die." "There is but one truth we can say: "Men are dyed in black." "They call me the "Mad Rock Evangelist." They're all like this, there's a lot of them, and they're really funny.

You can, in fact, buy canned seal at Sapporo station. And the airport. And most big souvenir shops in Hokkaido. Right next to the bear-meat curry. Canned bear curry is nothing special, but it’s edible.
