Holy...holy shit, are special needs people not given exemption from military service in korea? Thats wild, US DOD wont touch mental disability with a ten foot pole. (Unless theres politics involved, you know the ones im talking about). You cant maintain an effective fighting force while having to babysit people with severe autism or downs. Even if they're higher functioning they typically dont preform to acceptable standards so they military doesn't let them in if it can be helped. We had someone lie about their special needs status in basic and everyone involved fought for months to get him kicked out because he couldnt handle the emotional stress of military life.

That does make sense, idk anything about the military but I wouldn’t be surprised if they ignore mental health and only exempt if you have a physical disabiluty

tho based on some other webtoons I read you get exempt for having “talent/skill” or something like someone winning a violin reward (tho no disrespect to musicians but you’d think it’d be more of an accomplishment for the country like being a scientist or athlete then again other than being a gold medalist/aiming for the Olympics , idk if that’d help, then again since it’s required for “everyone” or at least every male, someone who wants to go to the Olympics but trying to get exemption unless it’s right before then might get ppl looking down on him like “he’s trying to be in the Olympics but he can’t handle two years of the military” ,

idk if mc will do something about it but maybe he’ll find something he can do without it being too bad, at least the other officers seem to care rather than leaving him to be bullied by senior soldiers)

I actually googled it shortly after making this comment and found out that yeah, korea essentially has the same rules around mental disorders and illnesses that the united states does. That being that people with these deficiencies are exempt from military service, its entirely possible he was forced into service by family (i had a kid like that in basic who had severe downs but joined because his dad was an army colonel. He was processed out tho). But realistically this guy shouldn't be here period
