Personally speaking, I like to make curry with chicken- especially chicken thigh. And I prefer turnip to potato, it doesn't dissolve into the broth. These things are a matter of personal taste!

(Also, I think since Kiyo is a cook, she's almost certainly getting a salary. It just is probably being paid into an account for her. Giving her 'pocket money' is probably the mother of the house giving her a bonus to have a nice day off with, so she doesn't have to spend her own money on like, food for the day.)

That's true. For a chef, being off work means you have to pay for your own food that day, I suppose.

She's not a maiko though. She's working for them as a cook. They should pay her for that kind of work.

It was stated earlier too that Mother covers basically all the living expenses for The Manor. So while I'm sure Kiyo is getting a regular wage (I mean, she must be getting quite a bit of money to make three home cooked meals a day for at least 5 people, every day), this pocket money must be specifically meant as a way to enjoy herself on top of her usual compensation.
