I understand Fafnir even less.
If he can only view his relationships with others in a hostile manner, and sees his relationship with Takiya in a more competitive manner, than there's no reason to hate Kobayashi so much.

That's hilarious, Fafnir is getting a game featuring "Sigurd" when in the original mythology Sigurd is the Norse warrior that killed him.

I think Fafnir considers Kobayashi the worse enemy because she's actively trying to make friends with all of the dragons she encounters, meaning eventually they'll all get along to a sort and Fafnir won't have any enemies to base his relationship rules on.

Edit: Also it could be because that she has a holy sword now, making her this universe's version of Sigurd.

I interpreted him declaring her his worst enemy as him being envious of the time she spends with Takiya, it's just an extremely dragon or perhaps Fafnirian way to express it and someone socially challenged like Kobayashi simply can't grasp the undertone.

I'm of the impression he isn't aware of the inconsistency himself. He's jealous Kobayashi is close with Takiya, but isn't aware of it because he only classes people as enemies instead of friends or rivals.

Of all the dragons in the story so far, Fafnir is probably the least "human" one. He sounds like a wild animal sometimes. There's always a lingering tension whenever he shows up and he makes little to no effort to compromise with anyone.

He's like this even in the spinoffs, and that's saying something, because they're pretty much pure comedy, and he still seems one step away from burning everything down.

The way I understand it is that Fafnir only considers others as “foes” disregarding many connotations that comes with the word itself.

The type of “foe” then defines the meaning of that existence to him. For instance, to us him and Takiya are good buddies, hence to him, Takiya is a fierce opponent. Similarly for Tooru, he acknowledged their meeting and her growth by describing how she changes as a “foe”. Again both disregard the “hate” that’s associated with the word “foe”.

Kobayashi is his “worst enemy” as she is the most significant individual in his social circle, without her the “group” cease to exist and her actions affects everyone.

That said he’s twisted in a way so all other interpretations are equally valid in my opinion. It’s just fun to ponder about.

Fafnir suddenly hating Kobayashi has the same energy as Quagmire hating Brian

I think it should be clear by the message/tone of this series he doesn't "hate-hate" Kobayashi. He treats Takiya as a "foe/enemy" as well.

His mindset is just so alien and different from how regular people think. He can't mentally parse his friends as "his friends" yet due thousands of years of being accustomed to what he thought he knew and is used to.

Fafnir has already gone out of his way to help Kobayashi and the group on multiple occasions. He is enjoying himself in the Human Earth world. Kobayashi's existence and how the entire group circles around her (including him) is giving him happiness he never had before yet it's the antithesis to what is so deeply ingrained into his mind. He doesn't understand his feelings yet, but he knows Kobayashi is at the center cause of it.

All this talk about interpreting 'hate' while I'm here thinking; "She's getting to the treasure before him."
