The third volume of
Koisuru Asteroid has such a dramatic quality in it that at times I wonder if it's still a SoL, or "a story told through slices of life." (I guess that's why DogaKobo adopted it as a dramedy.)
Nana: Why is it Mira-senpai, but not Ao-senpai?
Chika: Nana-chan, don't add insult to injury.
We get more of Nana in this chapter--now she has her guard down, it looks like she's actually a dork who can't read the room. "Chika shutting Nana up" is a potential running gag in the future.
Chika: Although you may feel lonely at times, the path before you shall lead you to a new stage. Abandon your pre-existing values, trust your intuitions, and advance.
At this point it feels like
Koisuru Asteroid gives more life advices than other
Kirara 4koma combined--maybe excluding
Hidamari Sketch. (Note: A Danbooru search indicates Quro was previously known as "Black River," and drew
Hidamari Sketch doujins)
@KZO
I love how obssessed Nana is with wanting Mira to be dumb, she defies the genki stereotype. The same way Ao defies the passive stereotype of a quiet girl.
That's why they are a perfect couple that'll achieve their dreams some day.
I think Mira is still intended to be not very intelligent, but unlike most genkis she seems to know her limitations, and she's willing to learn.
On the other hand, my current feeling about Ao is that, she's a "beta tomboy." I know that's an oxymoron--but on one hand she's genuinely quiet and demure, and on the other hand, her brain seems to work more like a male's--see my note on Chapter 31. Really, I think she really lives up her surname ("the middle")--in the perfect balance of several scales.
I agree with what some other says:
Koisuru Asteroid will be a different series if Mira was a Karen that happened to be an astronomy enthusiast, or if Ao was a more intelligent Hifumi or Kaos.
