This is probably one of my least favorite fantasy-tropes:
"An animal has intelligence, because it joined the party", or:
"An animal can speak" (which draws into question the morality of hunting them, if they have intelligence, and can negotiate).
It's downright obvious that since the baby was so hi-def, not only will they take it up, it'd also be a cut above the rest, and be practically human in mind...Which draws into question: how valid is it to actually hunt goblins?
