Yeah, the implication that a seemingly "evil race" (in D&D terms) like the goblins, can actually be "rehabilitated" into a peaceful, productive race, that can easily just live off the land in peace, rather than breed itself, and other species, to extinction --- means that slaughtering them is................Extremely questionable. It's to the point one has to wonder, how come the MC was the first one to come up with familiar-making to discover this (or why no goblin-tribe was ever able to go beyond being violent savages?)
The only reason I can dig "goblin exterminations" and the like in these type of stories, is because I treat these races as "Objectively evil", meaning they are by definition: evil. They are born to slaughter and rape. But, that's clearly not the case, at all.

This sort of twist of tropes, is amongst my least favorite trope: "Animals can talk".
Hey, if you've a magical spell that allows you to converse with cows, suddenly these creatures are intelligent, and thus sentient, and suddenly having a steak for dinner is immoral by an exponential magnitude.

Thus far, I don't believe I ever saw any story that allowed someone converse with animals, also had the animals be actually dumb. I.E: You can only comprehend their "intent", like: "Hungry." or "Scary."
They always turn the animals intelligent, smart, which buttfucks the ability to eat them, just as much as making a goblin a not violent savage.

P.S: Actually, I guess the "taming magic" alters the nature of the creature to quite a severe degree, so it's not really that simple...But I still find it really iffy.

I wish I could recall the source but you post reminds me of something i once read where the goblins went raiding, murdering and (sometimes even) eating people because humans hunt them like monsters so they had too as any significant settlements became crusade bait, which fed the belief of humans think of them as monsters....

Certainly not a concept for everyone.

Morality of keeping Rin safe from indiscriminate murder aside (seriously, you guys are looking way too deep into it), I love the trope of goblins not being able to speak. The babbling sounds are fun, and it hides the cringeworthy magic chants behind even more goofy babbling. It looks like she's growing past goblin size though, which is unfortunate. Friendly goblins should be small, no exceptions. Otherwise, they're just green elves (which is also fine, I'm not too picky).

The Zelda games let you talk to the cows, and they say some stuff about you milking them too.

So... the goblin girl can recite very complicated spells, but when speaking normally all we get is "GYAUU" ?????
She's basically turning into a goblin Shaman/Priest...
They can do pretty complicated/nasty spells while still not doing anything resembling intelligent conversation as we human rate things...

I do have to grin about the grouching about her size... The kids are all primary school age, roughly 5-12 yrs old.
Goblins grow and mature really fast, and are usually sized as human teenagers..
So small compared to human adults, but with their growth rate they would tower over mere kids pretty soonish.. That part is accurate...
