I just noticed how most men are drawn by tracing 3d models and they didn't even bother changing the chief engineer's pose between panels, just the camera and head angle. The women are also quite inconsistent; Merika is the only one with a nose and shading on her face.

I would say this. The girls are like "anime waifus" in a 3d world

It's a bit janky the higher ups have super detailed faces like people from Gantz then you have moe anime waifus as crews, including Chisato and Takina from Lycoreco

The more I look into the art, the more I think it looks off. The characters are stiff like the sprite from 3D western eroge that appear on steam top 10 and plasatered on realistic background.

The way shadows are done gives me that icky 3D feeling.

If it is hand drawn, it's a brilliant technical skill to be able to do lighting like that, but with the weird mix of styles and inconsistent depth it just feels weird.

The cases of being too excited because the goal is getting closer... I've seen and done such similar thing before... And sometimes the excitement prevents us from holding back

First off, is he a captain or a lieutenant? He is a captain in pretty much every panel the rank gets mentioned but then during the meeting he introduces himself as a lieutenant.

So that's what it is. I was wondering why It looked so off despite being so detailed.

The girl was not only his Childhood friend, and practically the only friend his age from the Orphanage. (Everyone from their Orphanage has the family name Bruce) So his dream job that he worked super hard for was crushed, and then that same day he was rejected the girl who planned to have a relationship with him announced she decided the day prior to become one of Jian's mistresses. So yeah, the girl was a huge part of it, but basically every dream the guy had died that day.


We are missing the weird bit where somehow the knowledge to make Ballistic weapons are gone/lost to the majority. Also the area of space they are in now has so much bs in it that both long range communications and lasers are worthless.

This manga is going at breakneck speeds. The 'chapters' aren't very long, but we went through like 4 chapters in 4 pages. The Maria bit takes most of 2 chapters, and allowed more infodumps. Also pretty sure whatever declaration here doesn't really have someone overhear it if it existed. Makes me a bit worried since we are speeding through other slow bits when most of the first volume is the slow bits.

We are also missing quite a bit of Nao's internal dialogue, which tells us that while he is a death seeker, he will do everything he can to prevent other people from dying to his wish. Hence why he keeps thinking about captain's going down with their ship or heroic last stands, like Gandalf preventing the Balrog from chasing the group. Which is why him being thrown into any officer capacity is terrible for his dream.

Yeah, my whole point though is that there is no logical reason for the complete abandonment of ballistic weapons just because of going into space. Kinetic force and penetrative trauma will always be a powerful weapon, no matter the level of technology, and the instant that Lasers became too omnipresent there should have been a huge swing in the favor of ballistics taking advantage of the defenses more tailored towards Laser defenses.

I need to find more manga like this one, it's a nice break from the usual medieval magic fantasy ones.
I've got a terrible memory when it comes to names but I've read one kinda similar manga that got axed, it was about a guy that got reincarnated as the ships AI, I really liked that one, sad that it got axed.
And then there's one that's still ongoing with a guy suddenly finding himself in a space game he plays, as a captain with an extremely agile ship he owned in the game and he outmaneuvers pirates and other bad guys. It has it's ups and downs but overall it's very entertaining.

Anything he said must've gone in one ear and out the other from sheer shock.

I have nearly 900 series (mostly manga, some manhwa and a couple of manhua) in my reading list (although, over half of them hasn't updated in a half a year or more) and another 50+ that are completed, combine that with my terrible memory when it comes to names in general... no I couldn't remember the name of the manga but I managed to find the Battleship AI one in my list after some digging "Unparalleled Path - Reincarnated as the AI for a Space Battleship", it still has 2 chapters left until it's "complete" (it got axed) but it hasn't updated in 5 months.
