$90 for translation..? Dude, you’re asking to be paid more than the original author at this point

You know we can just put the raws into Google translate for free, right?

If your hearts not in it, and you’re only here for the green, you should leave
Well, I know no one’s gonna pay that much, so anyone who gets early access isn’t gonna upload them in high quality. That’s the idea.

Didn't Sumiko have a weird cuck+interrupt fetish but now he gets weirded out by a kiss? :kek:
I fucking hate the guy but he cracks me up
Imagine if you knew someone that was fucking a hog. like, an actual wild hog. the kind you hunt.
That's how Sumiko sees human/yokai relationships, basically.

Shit ... rip, that's sad af, I loved this series.
Also, wtf greed, paywalled until end of august, wow.
so uhh, is no one going to comment on that first page and how it probably will get the translator banned from MD outright? (At least if they're not joking about it)
Oh I didn't fully understand what they were even asking but charging money for pdfs of fan translations is a really fast way to get unwanted attention from the original publishers who most certainly know about this site. 😅 Just unwise all around.
Unfortunately, everyone in need of money by how bad this world recession is. I'm not saying translator is right. Just understanding why they did so
Was coming to point out how the translator was setting themselves up for a banning with that dumb hostage-paywalling, but I see I was late to the party.
here in before ban hammer
Okay everyone, let me explain everything.

Someone actually paid over $90, and others paid $23 and $15.

A few more people contacted me, but then disappeared.
Some of them even told me I should have more supporters, yet they disappeared too.

The tier list is based on those payments. I'd love to lower the prices right now, but I can't.

So here's what I'm going to do
After one week, I'll drop the prices significantly.

Right now, you don't need to pay if you don't want to.

I hope you understand my Terrible situation.

Respectfully, this isn't helping.

1) vaguely alluding to a "terrible" situation means nothing to anyone because there's no reason for anyone to believe that this is legitimate and not a sob story designed to get money out of us. Because that's happened before when it comes to scanlators. It's not meant to say that you're a liar, just that it should not be surprising if nobody goes for it. Because lots of us are going to be cynical for a reason.

2) Setting your price tiers based on what other people have paid in the past isn't really functional because what one person may have paid for something when there's no limit or guideline (or even when there is and there are tiers or levels) is not representative of the community as a whole. I know people that pay hundreds of dollars a month to the patreons of youtubers that put out maybe an hour of content each month. By most measures that would be considered insane. But at the same time if it's what someone wants to pay and can spare, then that's their decision. With that said though what that one person does should not be used as a reflection on what anyone else could or should do.

3) You have not addressed the biggest and most significant problem here: Nobody particularly cares if you want to ask for money or even what values you set your tiers at if you do. The concern is instead the fact that Mangadex prohibits uploaders who paywall their releases, withholding chapters behind a requirement for people to go off-site and/or give the uploader money before the content is made available on here. If groups are found to be doing that, they are often banned from Mangadex and their entire history of uploads is purged from the site entirely.

That's the risk. You saying that you're going to ask for money and that if you don't get it you're going to sit on the uploads for multiple months as a consequence of that is in violation of that rule. If you said that you granted supporters a chance to get some benefit from their donation that didn't otherwise restrict or prevent other readers from getting anything that would be fine. Like saying that you'll start releasing chapters every 2 weeks, but people who donate will get each chapter a week early that's fine. But the entire problem is that you say you're going to finish the rest of the translation next month, then hold off everything from Mangadex release until the end of August, but (and here's the really damning part) "if support remains low this schedule will be extended" like a threat that if you don't get the money you want you'll just sit on everything like a hostage until we pay the ransom (because you've already admitted that you're doing that for at least a month since you began by saying you would finish the translation in July). Mangadex can and probably would take that as a reason to ban you and then we would lose everything from chapter 19 onward that you uploaded. And not even with any trace that it ever existed like with DMCA purges. It would just be wiped from the index for the title as if it never existed in the first place.

The important thing is that there is a way past this. If you make it clear that you don't intend to make your uploads dependent on donations and that you won't withhold content from the site on the basis of not getting money then they will look past this. It's happened before. I believe KDT Scans was initially banned for paywalling/witholding and had to appeal their ban with a promise to not horde chapters in order to be reinstated. Thing is that happened at the beginning of the paywall rule being put in place so there was likely a grace period where groups could walk back any behavior that might get them in trouble. Now, months later, it could be expected that everyone knows how things work and there's less leniency for people attempting to flout the rules for their own gain and no opportunity for correction.

I'm begging you to reconsider how you're approaching this. You don't have to stop asking for money (though it doesn't help now that things have happened the way they did) but you do have to agree that you're not going to use the remaining chapters as bait to force donations if we want to see the end of the series like you're delivering a ransom note.

Really? How can you tell? On some see any of the usual signs (the chapters are still up, their forum profile doesn't have the title switched to "banned", contact options still seem to be in place, etc.)

@Oddinary14 Yeah, like Darkshade13 explained in length, your work is good, I'm very appreciative, if I knew JP and did scantl I'd strive to be as decent, alas I can't, but I can recognize when I see a name pop up again in their next work, and that appreciation stacks, that's how reputation works. I'm pretty sure people will notice with time that you do good and have been doing so for however long, like they remember good groups names on MD, it's a slow burn.
And yeah, unless I've understood that incorrectly, I think Darkshade13 didn't get that the "terrible situation" is actually the fact you already had people pay, and you kinda understood the backlash but cannot back down for the sake of those who paid unfortunately, hence 'terrible situation' you're in, I understand the dilemma, but to be fair to the rest of us, that was greedy to begin with so "reap what you sow" type of deal ... idk.

I understand that. If you want then maybe ask to have a kofi? Or be honest that you can't afford to get new chapters so if you were to get them then someone would have to pay for them. You can make a membership for those who want to support you! I wish you would explain the terrible situation in what is going on

Click on his username next to the chapter. And also check the chapters themselves being listed as posted by No Group.

Because it's just one uploader who decided not to make a group for posting. That doesn't mean a ban.

If they were banned their profile would be marked as banned and since it would be a ban for violating the site rules regarding the posting of chapters/content, all of their uploads would be pulled off the site.

I didn't consider that because honestly that sounds absolutely insane. I can't spin what was written in the note at the end as anything more than a dressed up plea for cash with a threat to sit on the chapters and not release them if his demands aren't met. If people paid already that's a good thing and not grounds for demanding more cash or there'll be consequences. None of these situations can be called "terrible" by the person causing them because all of them are directly the fault and responsibility of that person.

It's like... you can't set fire to your own house, then cry and moan about how your house burned down and you lost all your stuff while you still hold the box of matches and discuss finishing the job if it stops burning.

When I saw pleas for help with a "terrible situation" I presumed that it was some sort of unspoken drama like every other scanlator group that starts aggressively begging for cash usually has going on.
