He doesn’t even look like a douche, and he never acted like one. Since the beginning he was trying to help her. He just didn’t sugar coat it. It’s completely true that she has low self esteem and he’s exactly what she needs to be successful.

Humans tends to see a pattern and associate something with it. Like snakes, normally people see these danger noodles as dangerous despite some of them being harmless to humans. Probably, that person had seen a few too many example of douche with that looks from other Shojo manga... And some manga tends to use easily recognized types for the character design, so more often than not, the looks explained the whole idea behind the character. This is also why gap moe is rather popular among the people, when a character acts differently to how they're expected to be from how they look. 😄

I understand that but i trusted this mangaka not to fall into tropes like that because they haven’t used other tropes much in this series. I think expecting him to just be an asshole cuz of his style is a disservice to the mangaka who up this point actually knows how to write characters
