I think it's just crap writing. The writer wants to hit all the familiar trope beats, but didn't think about how to structure the story to get to each of them in a believable way.

I guess we’re speedrunning the plot, the relationships, and the resolution. I expect the next chapter will cover some neighbor nation rebelling, being put down, and the new marriage. Maybe the author will have time to add in her having two children before flying past ‘the end’.

I've known people kinda like him so that's not the part that gets me the most. They really just kinda tunnel vision their romance and just don't really pay attention to everything else. Like they're aware things are happening, just it's not important. Yeah, they are pretty dumb.

Anyway the part that gets me is if he's so wrapped up in this girl he's oblivious to all these warning signs why the heck was he so upset about the engagement being broken? Suddenly acting like "I don't even like you"
