So I had to look up the 'veins' of the Yucatan peninsula because I was interested in a map. However, the only thing I found are about Cenotes (coming from the Mayan word Tso'ono'ot or Dzonot meaning water well) that formed after the decrease in water level, causing the karstic rock (the surface of the Yucatan is mostly composed of limestone due to being underwater millions of years ago) to collapse and reveal these large wells full of water along the surface. There are an estimated 5000 to 8000 of them, and when mapped make a massive ring around what is known as the impact point of the Chicxulub meteorite that killed the dinosaurs.
These Cenotes are also more like 'rivers' rather than isolated bowls of water all connected to the ocean.
Neat stuff, I'd say. Archeologist and geologists should do better though and map out these cenote veins. I get it's hard with all the flora in the way but with LiDaR scanning or whatever it would be a breeze to see it all visualized properly.
Damn this manga got so good it's getting me into geology 😂
