Well that's certainly one way to take the patient's mind off the operation...
Remember when brushing your teeth to use light pressure (if using a manual brush) as if you were polishing the skin of a tomato so you don't harm the enamel, letting the brush do all the work. Also wait a bit before brushing if you just had something acidic like orange juice or soda/coffee for the same reason as those substances soften up the enamel. Also don't forget to brush the tongue and roof of the mouth where bacteria which cause bad breath tend to accumulate.
