I’m getting genuinely curious about how bad bullying is in Japanese schools. I would assume it’s not as bad as it’s portrayed in manga — I mean, people aren’t being hit by sleeping truck drivers at anything like the rates shown in isekai stories — but in the stories where it happens it’s just taken for granted that yes, it’s really incredibly bad and nobody at any level does anything to address it. It feels like it has approximately the same cultural currency as school shootings would in the US. (Then again, I can’t say for sure how bad bullying is here in the US, it’s been a while since I was a schoolkid and my personal experience obviously isn’t universal anyway, so maybe the question is meaningless coming from me.)
