New arc?
New arc.
Short spoiler: Flashback confirmation, still no full truth, mostly a nothing burger of a half-chapter just Luna going around in circles.
We start off with Flashback!Naoto finding out about Flashback!Luna no longer visiting for summer next year from his mother. He asks his mother why, but she just told him that there are reasons and that he's too young to understand. Back in the present, we're still with Luna on full mount mentioning the reason and her secret as to why she stopped showing up all those years ago. Naoto asks why she won't just tell him the reason now, saying there's no way he'll hate her. Luna tells him that he started avoiding her back he saw her kissing someone before, confirming that flashback detail.

She worries that when she tells him the reason, he wouldn't just avoid, but straight out hate her. She tells Naoto that if he really wants to know, then he must prove to her that no matter how Luna turned out to be, Naoto wouldn't hate her. Naoto then asks her exactly how should he prove himself to her, and Luna... doesn't have a clue.

Luna tells him that there are about 10 things, including the reason why she could come back to the countryside, that she hid from Naoto thinking that he'd hate her if he knew. She says that should Naoto knew about them and his feelings still wouldn't change, she'll believe him, and she'll tell him what happened back then. Naoto agreed, as the not knowing her reason was in his mind all these years. He then asks her the first secret that Luna hid.

The first one, as Luna tells him, is the very thing that he just found out, about her masturbating. Luna was worried, but Naoto tells her that he's an adult, and understands that there are times anyone would want to do it, so he reassures her that he still likes her regardless. Naoto fumbles about him liking her, but Luna understood. She tells him that she too thinks of Naoto like her real sibling, that he is important to her. Feeling a sense of relief, Luna starts feeling sleepy.

Naoto leaves the room, and Luna tells herself that if it is the current Naoto, then things will go well this time, that Naoto would fully accept 'Luna'.

Summer ends, and school starts once again. Since that day, Luna starts seeing Naoto off at the door despite her not being a morning person.

Chapter ends as Luna sees Naoto off, fixing his hair.

This is getting back to just being annoying again.

The part about the kissing scene being confirmed in the past is actually mildly infuriating because he was justifiably mad that she broke their promise to go be with someone else, and it seems like she never actually apologized to him and instead gas-lighted him while she was half asleep.

So does this mean that some of the secrets she's keeping from him are enough that Naoto would, again, be justifiably mad about them and cause a irreparable rift between them, by no fault of his own?

At this point Luna's character is starting to come off as more and more selfish and bordering on emotionally abusive towards Naoto because of his (seemingly) unconditional love for her and wants him to stay even though she may or may not have done things that would deeply hurt him.

With that said, I don't expect / I hope this doesn't go into darker (for a lack of a better term) territory, as Atsushi's previous works don't lean heavily into those sort of themes and generally ended on a good note.

With how this are progressing after this chapter, I don't think we're going to be seeing the ending any time soon and this might end up being longer than his previous works, unless we get a lore dump all at once.

That being said, I'm expecting the third girl to show up in the near future, as I still don't think that it was Hiba in the photo and there has been more than enough time for it to be confirmed to be her at this point.

Although, the one thing that still has me confused about the entire situation, from the very beginning, is that Naoto's mother would refuse to tell him what happened, and then 10 years later suggest that he go live with Luna while attending university while still never explaining anything to him.

I might stick around for a few more chapters, but I'll probably end up dropping it again until there's a decent amount of chapters instead of getting annoyed by the pacing.

Not much this week as it's just the start of a new arc, but at least we can get the theory ball rolling again.
As funny as the idea of Naoto having a Tohno Gland that works exclusively on quirky girls can be, getting the quirky heroines' attraction for no real reason, one could argue that Luna having a relationship outside her dependency on Naoto as an emotional crutch, as a result of parental abandonment, is her way getting a "normal" relationship with her cousin. The heroines have... "normal" issues, that Naoto somehow just fits right in.

The rumors of Luna being a slut could also have been a result of her playing single player vs flashback!Naoto being overheard. Imagine starting a relationship with a girl, only to hear her moaning and saying another person's name, not knowing that she was just alone, and the name she was repeatedly saying was her younger cousin's.

Her inadvertently breaking her promise was a result of her trying a hand at "normalcy", by distancing herself away from Naoto. Which she seemingly fails to even to present day, as she prioritizes Naoto above every one else.

Luna's thinking in the present was probably, "if Naoto knew that she was lusting over kid!Naoto all the way back then, he would hate her.". This isn't her gaslighting Naoto instead of apologizing, this is her desperately clinging on to someone she cherishes to not abandon her.

Unsurprisingly, this is an actual problem in some of Japan's youth, I personally know a handful few, and their coping mechanisms vary wildly. Luna's example could just be one of them, wrapped up in a love comedy manga. Let's just say there are some kernels of truths in Onizuka Eikichi's exploits helping kids with abandonment issues, post GTO.

If we consider one heroine as one arc, and the protagonist has to explore all the other arcs before getting to the ending that only actually concerns the first heroine, then that's one way to extend and otherwise short story. Though we're probably getting a big lore dump in the next 5 full chapters with the way things look so far.

I could think of a theory for the change of heart without going into isekai theory territory.
- It was precisely because Naoto was a kid at the time... let me explain.
Assuming the bite incident was the direct cause of Luna not being able to return the following summer, it was because a very young Naoto was involved in it, and that's probably the reason why his mother would not tell him, yet allowed him to be with Luna now that he's an adult.

We don't know what happened after Naoto ran to Luna after he got bit by Kawashina, but we do know that it eventually got the police involved. Involved parties would definitely be questioned, and if Luna did something drastic enough that the police were called, they would ask her reasoning, and it would very likely be yandere-esque in nature that the young Naoto would not be able to accept. The adults probably viewed separating the two would be more to protect Naoto from Luna, while giving Luna the opportunity of a "normal" life, by not feeding on her dependency on Naoto as her crutch. Naoto's mother probably gave the ok thinking that after all that time separated, Luna outgrew her dependency and would no longer lust over the young Naoto. But hey, that's just a theory.

i never felt so good being right. Fuck all the incel cucks who constantly kept saying she was a slut. So glad I don’t think like those losers. The bait was obvious since the beginning.

The real cope is probably that she is a virgin. However given this revelation of her addiction to AV, there is a 45% chance this girl hasn’t experienced sex but has done non-penetration stuff.
