Gawd this is so wholesome and cute.

The kid is definitely male, because the name of the series is 今日からお主は蛇神の息子, and 息子 is son.

Looking at the raws, the kid keeps being referred to as この子 which could refer to either gender but is slightly more likely female, so the MTL got confused because what does it know? And the person doing it probably doesn't know English either (because if they do then there's absolutely no excuse).

But I'd rather have slop translations of this than nothing at all, what are you gonna do unless a real TL wants to do it?
A lot of Japanese translation stuff is BAD with the gender neutral pronouns and context in general. There are also terms which lean to certain genders but aren't definitively coded.

Everyone saying "thanks for the translation" for MTL slop pushed out by people who don't know how to read is so very sad
Generally I agree with this.
But this is a slop series so I am okay with slop translation. As long as good series get some great translations, we'll be fine 🤞

AI's note:
妊婦体験
[Ninpu Taiken / Pregnancy experience] is an actual educational activity in Japan, giving parenting classes for couples before childbirth. Men (and women) wear special weighted vests shaped like a pregnant belly to build empathy for pregnant women, simulating the extra weight, pressure on the lower back, and difficulty in bending and moving.

I really hate it when 'translators' leave handwritten texts untranslated. They tend to give little tidbits that enrich the characters and story. It should be your job, not the readers'. I'm sharing this because I've already done the work to understand the text, so I might as well not let it go to waste, but I seriously hope that nobody throws any money at low effort scanlations.

Tools:

Jisho.org (radical search)
Hanzicraft
ChatGPT
Google Gemini
Google Translate (it gives suggested kanji based on your chicken-scratch handwriting, no need to know the stroke order unlike Microsoft IME)

P/S:

1. I haven't tried it, but considering Deepseek is from China, I'm sure it won't have much trouble recognizing handwritten kanji.

2. I've stopped using DeepL. AI/LLM is much better.

3. Knowing basic Japanese helps. It's never too late to learn.
